The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, USA) (http://www.nhtsa.gov/Laws+&+Regulations/Brakes) has released new regulations regarding braking distances that are to be enforced starting August 2011. These regulations stipulate that braking distances are to be reduced by 30%. Present day braking distances for a semi-trailer truck is 335 feet (102 meters) at a speed of 60mph (approx. 100kph) and will be regulated to 235 feet (72 meters) for a semi-trailer truck. This reduction of braking distance will be applied collectively to heavy vehicles starting August 2013.
